Why do season-ticket holders not renew?
Often for reasons the club could have seen coming: they stopped coming, passed their seat on, or only heard from the club when it wanted money. So the work starts mid-season, not at the renewal deadline.
This page covers the fan side. Season-ticket holders are fans: they belong in Fan Passport and your ticketing, not in a sponsor CRM.
Step 1: Which signals show a holder is at risk?
Attendance is the clearest one. Watch for:
- Games missed in a row
- Seats used by a different person, or tickets passed on often
- Fewer purchases of food, drink and merch at the venue
- No response to club messages the fan opted in to
In Toutix: Fan Passport builds a profile for each fan from the systems the club connects. If Toutix runs your ticketing, attendance and purchases come from the same system, with food and merch in the same checkout as the ticket.
Step 2: How do you find the at-risk holders?
Group holders by how their season is going, not by how much they paid. A practical start:
- Regulars: attending most games
- Drifting: missed several recent games
- Passing on: seat used by others more often than by the holder
Step 3: How do tiers and perks help?
A season ticket is a seat. A tier is a status. Fans who can see their status, and what the next level gives them, have a reason to come back and a reason to renew.
Useful perks for renewals:
- Early access to next season's seats
- Recognition of consecutive seasons
- Matchday perks that only count if the holder attends
- Quests that reward coming to games the holder usually skips
In Toutix: Fan Passport gives fans tiers, perks and quests inside the ticketing they already use. Fans join with one tap, and the club designs the tiers and perks.
Step 4: How do you make the offer at the right time?
Contact drifting holders before renewal opens, with something useful: a perk, a reminder of their tier, a game they would enjoy. Then make the renewal offer itself early to the people most likely to say yes, and leave more time for the ones who need it.
Respect how each fan asked to be contacted. A message on the wrong channel costs trust. In Fan Passport, fans choose how the club contacts them and can leave at any time.
Step 5: Where does the renewal happen?
Where the fan already buys. If the renewal sits on a different site from the one the fan knows, some will not finish.
In Toutix: Ticketing runs under the club's own brand and domain. Clubs can also keep their current ticketing partner and use Fan Passport on top of it.
Step 6: What about holders who can't make every game?
Some holders will always miss games. Give them a fair way to pass a ticket on, so the seat is filled and the season ticket still feels worth keeping.
In Toutix: for UK clubs, Ticketing includes club-authorised resale in GBP. Prices are capped at a level Toutix sets with the club, with a default of 2x face value. Every resale issues a new QR code, and the club takes a share of each resale.
